Mountaineers@Work

West Virginia University has a strong tradition in robotics, driven by the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering & Mineral Resources and the WVU Robotics program.

Over the past decade, WVU Robotics has grown into a leader in robotics education and research, expanding its faculty, student involvement, and facilities. WVU’s emphasis on hands-on learning and competition success has led to ten first-place finishes in national and international robotics competitions, including multiple NASA Centennial Challenge victories and the 2023 University Rover Challenge championship.

Building on this success, Mountaineers@Work, WVU’s RoboCup@Work team, was formed to expand the university’s presence in international robotics competitions. The team represents WVU’s commitment to robotics innovation, competing in industrial automation and mobile manipulation challenges.

With access to cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary education, the team prepares students for careers in automation, manufacturing, and AI-driven robotics. As WVU continues to grow its Robotics Engineering program and expand outreach, Mountaineers@Work aims to solidify its place among top-performing RoboCup teams worldwide.

RoboCup@Work

RoboCup@Work is a relatively new competition in RoboCup that targets the use of robots in work-related scenarios.

It aims to foster research and development that enables the use of innovative mobile robots equipped with advanced manipulators and sensors for current and future industrial applications, where robots cooperate with human workers for complex tasks ranging from manufacturing, automation, and parts handling up to general logistics.
